The part of the Support Services Division most visible to the public, and with the biggest effect on the public, is the unique Community Policing Unit. The Community Policing Unit was created to enable the police department to address quality of life issues that are important to all the residents of Washington Township. The unit works cooperatively with varied members of the community to solve a multitude of problems. This Community Policing Unit is involved with almost all the school and educational programs in Washington Township. The Unit has programs designed to involve residents of all ages. The Community Policing Unit is committed to making Washington Township a safer place to live, and to that end, the unit meets with many concerned citizen groups. The Community Policing Unit makes every attempt to ensure that individuals are available with the expertise necessary to handle the specific concerns of residents . The Unit runs seminars to alleviate the concerns of, and educate the residents. These "individuals with expertise" are drawn from both the ranks of the Washington Township Police Department, and many other law enforcement agencies from a wide variety of venues. The Community Policing Unit, part of the Support Services portion of the Police Department, is administered by Lt. Mark Niemynski. The Community Policing Unit is led by Sergeant Douglas Compton.
