School Programs
- Bullying Education.
- This program was implemented to be taught to fifth and sixth grade students about bullying and harassment. The programs purpose is to educate the students about the consequences of bullying behavior and that it will not be tolerated.
- Narcotics Recognition Training.
- This program is taught by Sgt. Christopher Bratus who is a trained Drug Recognition Expert. The training was offered to the faculty at West Morris Central and The Long Valley Middle School. Sgt. Bratus advises the audience about current narcotic trends and has a display board to show the faculty examples of the drugs.
- Halloween Safety.
- Prior to Halloween a program is held for children from Kindergarten to Fourth grade. The purpose is to educate the children about safety situations that they may encounter while trick or treating.
- Stranger Awareness/What is a Police Officer?
- These programs are taught at many of the pre-schools within the township. The purpose is to educate the children about strangers and to get them accustomed to having a police officer in the classroom. It begins to set the stage for the D.A.R.E. program.
- School Liaison Officers
- Sgt. Adams and Officer Oranchak are contacted by all the Township Schools as well as the West Morris Central School System when problems arise that need to be addressed. The two officers act as a liaisons and have the appropriate resources to handle any situation. Some of the situations may involve the implementation of new programs to address a unique situation.
- Teens against Crime.
- This is a group of Washington Twp. students that conduct puppet shows at township events and school fairs. The puppet shows deal with safety related issues. Officer Oranchak is in charge of this organization.
- West Morris Central Legal Aspects Class.
- Members of the police department conduct lectures for the students that take Mr. Dennis O’Connell’s class. There is a wide range of law enforcement topics covered. At the end of the school year the students portray police officers and are placed in role-playing police situations
