in Washington Township
Core Curriculum | Senior High Program
Drug Abuse Resistance Education is taught to students in Kindergarten
through Fifth Grade. This program is taught in conjunction with
the Washington Township Board of Education. D.A.R.E. is also
taught to Tenth Graders in conjunction with West Morris Central
High School.
Visitations ( Kindergarten – Fourth Grade )
The Kindergarten through Fourth Grade programs are called visitations
and are taught from September through December of the school year
at Old Farmers Road School, Kossmann School, Flocktown Road School,
and soon Benedict A. Cucinella Elementary School upon its opening.
- Kindergarten: Visit each classroom two times covering the
following topics using colored print cards:
- Why it is safe to follow directions.
- Why it is important to know what is going on around you.
- Who you can call in case of an emergency.
- What you should do if you find a gun.
- Who a stranger is.
- Why kids shouldn’t talk to strangers, go with strangers,
or accept gifts from strangers.
- First and Second Grade: Visit each classroom four times covering
the following topics:
- Personal Safety
- Drugs: Helpful or Harmful?
- Learning to Say No
- Dealing with Angry Feelings
- Third and Fourth Grade: Visit each classroom five times covering
the following topics:
- Laws and Rules to Keep us Safe
- Drugs May Help or Harm
- Saying No to Drug Offers
- Handling Conflicts Without Violence
- Jeopardy – review previous lessons
