Police Officers from the Washington Township Police Department and local NJ Special Olympic participants will participate in the 21st annual NJ Law Enforcement Torch Run, an event involving over 2,700 police officers statewide. Participants collect pledges for the run where the special Olympic torch is carried over 950 miles through the State of New Jersey to the Summer Games Opening Ceremonies. The Community Policing Unit will provide support with their vehicle, and a ready place for re-hydration of the participants. Officers assigned to the Bike Patrol Unit are expected to participate. The torch will pass through Washington Township as it leaves Warren County on Route 46 and travels on East Avenue, Mountain Avenue to Route 57, where it leaves town, and then South on Route 31 on its way to Trenton, its final destination. Traditionally the passage of the torch through Washington Township has raised over $1,500 through the efforts of the Community Policing Unit and Washington Township PBA Local #301.
