WEST MORRIS CENTRAL SOPHOMORE PROGRAM

West Morris Central High School, in conjunction with the
Washington Township Community Policing Unit, in an effort
to make social education for High School Sophomores
more in tune with the students everyday lives, is updating
the curricula and is adapting the program for our
students. The course will address topics that apply to,
and have a direct application for, the students. Topics
including bullying, bias incidents, sexual harassment, personal safety,
underage alcohol consumption, and club drugs will be
covered. The program is a custom design, and was created
jointly by West Morris Central Physical Education Faculty, Lt. Mark
Niemynski, and Cpl. William McCarthy.
The instructors of the course will be drawn primarily from
the Patrol Division, to the classroom, where they will be
able to bring their practical police experience and
apply it to an educational forum. The culminating activity
of the program is a ropes
course designed to teach team work and leadership. The
program starts March 15, 2004 and runs through March 31,
2004 at the West Morris Central Campus.
