Department Overview
Chief Michael Bailey administers the Washington Township Police Department. Chief Bailey is assisted in his administration bytwo Lieutenants.
The lieutenants administer the three primary components, Operations, Support Services and Administration/communications of the Washington Township Police Department.
Chief Bailey is responsible for the overall function of the police department.
Operations, composed of the Patrol Division, is the portion of the police department that is most visible to the public. Operations is the largest portion of the police department with 20 police officers, and is responsible for the initial response to reports of medical emergencies, accidents, fires and crimes.
Support Services, composed of the Community Policing, the Traffic Bureau, the Detective Bureau, the Police Response to Incidents During Emergencies (P.R.I.D.E.) Unit, primarily a police emergency medical response unit, and Records, is the smallest portion of the police department with 11 officers and civilian employees, but has the largest number of public programs.
Administration/communications, also known as the West Morris Regional Dispatch Center, is the portion of the police department that most people first come into contact with. Composed of 21 full and part time dispatchers, Communications is a 24 hour 365 day operation that never stops. Communications answers all 911 calls, administrative police phone calls and non emergency calls.
Communications dispatches for the Washington Township Police Department, the Chester Boro Police Department, the Chester Township Police Department, the Long Valley Fire Department, the Schooley's Mountain Fire Protection Association, the Fairmount Fire Department, the Chester Volunteer Fire Company, the Long Valley First Aid Squad, the Chester First Aid Squad, the Mendham Township First Aid Squad, and Washington Township Animal Control.
