Chief Michael Bailey administers the Washington Township Police Department and is assisted in his administration by three Lieutenants.

The Lieutenants administer the three divisions of the Department, Patrol, Administrative and Support Services.

Chief Bailey is responsible for the overall function of the police department.

The Patrol Lieutenant, Lt Douglas Compton, supervises the Patrol Division, the most visible portion of the police department, with 20 police officers. The Patrol Division is responsible for the initial response to reports of medical emergencies, accidents, fires and crimes. Lt Compton can be reached at (908) 876-8309.

The Administrative Lieutenant, Lt Art Adams, is the liaison to the Municipal Court and Prosecutor, the contact person for the Municipal Alliance, the Schools, MC Communications and outside contractors. Additionally the Administrative Lieutenant supervises four civilian employees. Lt Adams can be reached at (908) 876-8305.

The Support Services Lieutenant, Lt Mark Niemynski, supervises the Support Services Division, composed of the Traffic Bureau, Detective Bureau and Records Bureau. This is the smallest portion of the police department. Additionally the Support Services Lieutenant oversees impounds, fleet, training and discovery requests. Police Communications is managed by the County of Morris Dispatch Center.
