Chief Michael Bailey Sworn in as Chief of Police

Chief Michael Baily being sworn in by Administrator/Clerk Diane GalletsOn March 15, 2006 at a Washington Township Committee worksession meeting, and again at a regualr meeting on the 20th of March, Lt Michael Bailey was sworn as the Chief of Police. Chief Bailey is the fourth individual to serve in that position.

Chief Bailey started his law enforcement career in Washington Township in 1988 as a Patrol Officer. In 1993, he was reassigned to the DARE/community Policing Unit. In 1996 Chief Bailey was assigned to the Detective Bureau where he worked on numerous cases dealing with juveniles, arsons, burglaries, frauds, deaths, and identity thefts.

In 1999, Chief Bailey was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and ran the Detective Bureau as the Detective Sergeant. During his tenure as the head of the Detective Bureau, he trained several detectives.

Chief Bailey was reassigned to the Patrol Division as a Patrol Sergeant in charge of running a squad before being promoted to Lieutenant in 2002. Since that time he has served in all areas of the Police Department. His last assignment was Lieutenant in charge of Communications.

Chief Bailey, a Long Valley resident,lives on Schooley's Mountain with his wife and children.
