Drunk Driver Strikes Utility Pole - Driver Medevac'ed to Morristown Memorial

WASHINGTON TWP - 3/14/04 West Valley Brook residents reported a serious motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of 185 West Valley Brook Road early Saturday morning. 

Patrol Officer Rady was the first police unit on the scene and found the one occupant of the vehicle, a 23 year old male resident of Califon, NJ, unconscious.  The occupant, the driver had not been wearing his seat belt and was thrown into the rear seat of the vehicle as the vehicle rolled over . 

Long Valley First Aid Squad, assisted by The Fairmount Fire Department, and MICU 57, requested the NJ State Police helicopter, Northstar for medical evacuation of the injured party.   Northstar responded and med-evacuated the individual to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Sergeant Adams and Traffic Bureau Sergeant Trevena responded to the crash to assist in the investigation. Corporal Barnes arrested the individual for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and obtained a blood sample at Morristown Memorial Hospital.   

The driver was additionally charged with careless driving, and failure to wear a seat belt.  The subject was admitted to the hospital
