Heavy Rains Melt Snow
Minor Flooding - No Damage Reported
Heavy rains during
the morning of December 11,
melted
most of the snow that fell in the storm that started on December
5th (see story), but only resulted
in three calls to the Police Department for assistance.
The South Branch of the Raritan river, the body of water that
flows through the historic district of Long Valley was well
contained in the center of Long Valley, but further East and
West it overflowed it's banks.
Barricades were
placed by the Washington Township Road Department at the
intersection of Bartley and Naughright Roads, as the swift
flowing river overflowed. There were standing waves in the
river as the water swirled around trees just downstream of the
Naughright Road bridge, and just inches from the bottom of the
bridge.
Further
downstream, the river flowed over several driveways and around
several houses. West Mill Road was nearly covered near
Clay's Garage, just west of the the Middle School. No
damage to any residences was reported.
