Early Morning Accident Severely Injures Two
Police Headquarters received a 911 call during the early morning hours of July 10, 2004, at about 4:59 AM reporting that a car struck a tree on Turtleback Road and the occupants were injured. Sergeants Almer, Corporal Pluciniak and Patrol Officers Madden and Falleni responded to the scene. Arriving patrol officers determined the driver was trapped in the vehicle, a 2004 Maroon Nissan pickup, and the passenger, a 26 year old male resident of Chester, NJ, was severely injured.  The Long Valley First Aid Squad, and the Fairmont Company responded to the scene.

The injuries to the driver and the passenger were of a nature that the NJ State Police Northstar helicopter was immediately called to transport the injured parties to Morristown Memorial Hospital for treatment.  The Long Valley First Aid Squad used the "Jaws of Life" to remove the driver, a 19 year old female resident  of Pottersville, NJ.

Sergeant Trevena, of the Washington Township Traffic Bureau, responded to the scene to assist in the investigation, along with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office.  The lead investigating officer, Corporal Pluciniak, determined the driver lost control of the vehicle and drifted into t ditch on the left hand side of the roadway, as a result, the vehicle spun into trees at the side of the road trapping the driver between the driver's door and the interior of the vehicle.

The investigation into the accident is continuing, and the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and other motor vehicle charges.
