DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Sergeant Almer, assisted by Patrol Officer Madden, investigated a
possible case of Domestic Violence after an involved party called.
Sergeant Almer initiated an investigation and determined an arrest was
not required. Both individuals were advised of their rights, provided
with documents related to victim’s rights under the Domestic Violence
Act, and offered an opportunity to apply for a Temporary Domestic
Violence Restraining Order. Both parties declined. Sergeant Almer
additionally made appropriate referrals and forwarded the results of his
investigation to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

PATROL
ARREST (DWI)
Patrol Officer Madden arrested a 55 year old male resident of Washington
Township for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on
Fairview Avenue,
after the vehicle ran off the road. The vehicle was impounded in
accordance with “Johns Law” and the defendant was transported to police
Headquarters for a breathalyzer test and processing.
The
driver was charged with failure to keep right, reckless driving, not
having a drivers license or registration certificate in possession, no
registration decals on the license plate and driving while intoxicated
(DWI. The subject was released to a responsible party

PATROL ARREST (Warrant)
Patrol Officer Leonardi arrested a 21 year old female resident of
Budd Lake, NJ, on a contempt of court warrant issued by Rockaway Township
Municipal Court, after the individual was stopped for a motor
vehicle violation. Bail on the warrant was set at $350. The
individual was transported to Headquarters, processed and turned
over to the Rockaway Township Police Department pending adjudication.

case of Domestic Violence after a neighbor called reporting a
disturbance.
Corporal Micco initiated an investigation and determined an arrest

THEFT
A Naughright Road resident reported that a number of items were
removed from their property. Patrol Officer Burns initiated an
investigation. The owner stated that the value of the items was
over $10,000.
The investigation is continuing.

CIVIL MATTER
A Hackettstown, NJ resident came to police Headquarters to report
that an item was stolen from them. Patrol Officer Burns responded
to Headquarters to initiate an investigation.
Patrol Officer Burns determined that a theft did not occur, and that
the situation was civil in nature. Patrol Officer Burns contacted
all parties involved and make the appropriate recommendations.

Washington Township for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on

test and processing. At Headquarters the individual refused to
submit to a breath test as required.
The driver was charged with reckless driving, driving while
intoxicated (DWI), refusal to submit to a breath test, failure to
maintain a lane, and failure to inspect a vehicle. The subject was
released to a responsible party.

Lake, NJ for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on Route 46. The

The driver was charged with failure to observe a traffic control
device, reckless driving, failure to keep right, driving while
intoxicated (DWI), failure to maintain a lane, failure to inspect a
vehicle, and failure to use a turn signal. The subject was released
to a responsible party.

Patrol Officer Brobst, assisted by Chief Ehrenburg, arrested a 51
year old female resident of
Hackettstown,
NJ for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on Route 46, after a report
that she was involved in an accident and left the scene. The
defendant was located, arrested and transported to police
Headquarters for a breathalyzer test and processing.
The driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident,
reckless driving, and driving while intoxicated (DWI). The subject
was released to a responsible party.
Patrol Officer Brobst later initiated an investigation and completed
an accident report.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (Patrol Arrest)
Corporal Barnes, assisted by Sergeant Compton, investigated a
possible case of Domestic Violence after receiving a report of a
disturbance.
Corporal Barnes initiated an investigation and determined an arrest
was required. Corporal Barnes arrested a 21 year old male for a
criminal offense covered under the Domestic Violence Act. Municipal
Judge F Leanza issued a warrant with bail set at $2,500 and the
defendant was released in his own recognizance.
The victim
was advised of their rights, provided with documents related to
victim’s rights under the Domestic Violence Act, and offered an
opportunity to apply for a Temporary Domestic Violence Restraining
Order. The victim declined. Corporal Barnes additionally made
appropriate referrals and forwarded the results of her investigation
to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
Four hours later, at 2:27 Am 12/11/03, the defendant returned to the
initial location and again caused a disturbance and damage.
Corporal Barnes initiated an investigation and determined an arrest
was again required. Corporal Barnes again arrested the 21 year old
male for a criminal offense covered under the Domestic Violence
Act. Municipal Judge F Leanza issued a warrant with bail set at
$5,000. The defendant was unable to post the required bails and was
transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending
adjudication.
The victim
was again advised of their rights, provided with documents related
to victim’s rights under the Domestic Violence Act, and offered an
opportunity to apply for a Temporary Domestic Violence Restraining
Order. The victim again declined. Corporal Barnes additionally
made appropriate referrals and forwarded the results of her
investigation to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

STRUCTURE FIRE
A Kings Highway resident called on 911 to report that his residence
was on fire (See story on the NEWS page for additional information
and pictures) Sergeant Adams, assisted by numerous members of the
Washington Township Police Department, and most of the surrounding
Fire Departments responded to the scene.
Sergeant Adams assisted the resident in leaving the residence and
saving numerous animals form the fire. Animal Control Officers
Ghetti and Mitkus responded to the scene and secured a dog, fish,
several cats and a number of birds.
The fire departments were able to bring the fire under control after
a very short period of time. Sergeant Adams initiated an
investigation and determined the fire was started by an electrical
malfunction in an upstairs bedroom. The fire was determined to be
accidental. The Morris County Prosecutors office was notified of
the incident, but did not assist.

investigation. The resident was advised of their options. The

resident reported that they have been receiving harassing phone
calls while at police Headquarters. Sergeant Almer responded and
initiated an investigation. The victim knows the identity of the
offender and indicated they would sign a criminal complaint against
the offender. The resident was advised of their options. The
investigation was completed.

Patrol Officer Madden arrested a 41 year old male resident of Long
Valley on a contempt of court warrant issued by Jefferson Township
Municipal Court. Bail on the warrant was set at $1,318. The
individual was transported to Headquarters, processed and released
on bail pending adjudication.
