THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE
A Route 46 business owner reported that their 1999 Peterbilt Tri-axle dump truck was stolen.  The truck has a black cab and a grey dump body, with bright aluminum fuel tank and wheels.  Patrol Officer Gilligan initiated the investigation, and verified that the vehicle had been stolen.  Patrol Officer Gilligan additionally determined a 2004 Peterbilt single axle dump, silver cab and grey dump body, a 2000 Eager Beaver trailer and a construction yellow Caterpillar D3C bulldozer were also stolen from the premises. 

The vehicles were entered into the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) System.  The investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information regarding the incident or location of the vehicles is urged to contact tips@wtpdmorris.org or Detective Corporal Szymanski at 908.876.3232.  All information received will be held in confidence.

DISPUTE
Patrol Officer Gilligan investigated a family dispute after a neighbor contacted Police Headquarters. Patrol Officer Gilligan initiated an investigation and determined the incident did not fall under the Domestic Violence Act.  Patrol Officer Gilligan appropriate referrals and forwarded the results of the investigation to the Division of Youth and Family Services.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Patrol Officer Falleni, assisted by Corporal Pluciniak, investigated a possible violation of a Domestic Violence Final Restraining Order (FRO) after a resident called the Communications Center. 

Patrol Officer Falleni initiated an investigation and determined an arrest was required, as a violation of the order did occur.  Washington Township Municipal Court Judge Leanza was contacted, and the Judge found probable cause to issue an arrest warrant. 

The warrant was issued and several attempts to serve the arrest warrant were made, but Patrol Officer Falleni and Corporal Pluciniak were unable to locate the individual. Patrol Officer Falleni additionally made appropriate referrals and forwarded the results of his investigation to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office

FAMILY MATTER (Custody Dispute)

An individual reported that they were having difficulty with a civil family order dealing with custody times of their children.  Patrol Officer Madden responded to the scene to initiate an investigation.  Patrol Officer Madden determined the matter was civil and nature and unenforceable by the police department.  The resident was advised the incident would be documented, to contact their attorney, and was provided with the appropriate referrals.

ASSISTANCE (Welfare Check)
A
Maplewood resident requested a welfare check on their child after the phone was hung up in mid conversation.  Patrol Officer Allen responded to the scene and determined there was no problem.  The complainant was advised.

PURSUIT
Corporal Barnes assisted the Mendham Township Police Department in a pursuit.  Corporal Barnes succeeded in stopping the suspect vehicle and arresting the operator after the pursuit returned to Washington Township on West Mill Road.

The defendant was immediately turned over the pursuing officers from the Mendham Township Police Department.

PATROL ARREST (DWI)
Patrol Officer Bigham arrested a 27 year old female resident of Washington Township for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on Schooley’s Mountain Road.  The vehicle was impounded in accordance with “Johns Law” and the defendant was transported to Police Headquarters for a breathalyzer test and processing

The driver was additionally charged with reckless driving.  The subject was released to a responsible party.

THEFT
A Jackie Drive resident reported that about $200 cash was stolen from their residence.  Patrol Officer Bigham initiated an investigation and completed a report..  The investigation is continuing.

STRUCTURE FIRE
A Long Hill Road resident reported a heavy smoke condition in the garage.  Patrol Officer Burns responded to initiate an investigation.  The Fairmount Fire Company and the Long Valley First Aid Squad responded.  Patrol Officer Burns determined the fire started as a result of malfunctioning low voltage power packs, powering outside landscape lighting.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Patrol Officer Wurtemberg investigated a possible case of domestic violence after a resident reported an incident that occurred on November 18, 2004.

Patrol Officer Wurtemberg initiated an investigation and determined an arrest was not required.  The complainant was advised of their rights, provided with documents related to victim’s rights under the Domestic Violence Act, and offered an opportunity to meet with a member of the Crisis Response Team (CRT), and apply for a Temporary Domestic Violence Restraining Order (TRO).  The complainant declined meeting with the CRT member and the opportunity to apply for a TRO. The individual stated that they just wanted to have the incident reported. 

Patrol Officer Wurtemberg additionally made appropriate referrals and forwarded the results of his investigation to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
Peachtree Village reported damage to a window on an apartment after a resident was evicted by the Morris County Sheriff’s Department.   Patrol Officer Marut responded, initiated an investigation, completed a report and advised a representative of the procedure to sign a complaint with the Washington Township Municipal Court.

PATROL ARREST (DWI)
Patrol Officer Madden, assisted by Sergeant Almer and Corporal McCarthy, arrested a 48 year old male resident of Washington Township for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) on
Nestling Woods Drive.  The vehicle was impounded in accordance with “Johns Law” and the defendant was transported to Police Headquarters for a breathalyzer test and processing.

At Headquarters, the defendant refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.  The driver was additionally charged with reckless driving, refusal to provide breath samples, disregard of a stop sign, failure to maintain lane, and failure to produce an insurance card.  The subject was released to a responsible party.

A short time after being released to the responsible party, the responsible party called indicating the defendant was upset and left.  Sergeant Almer, Corporal McCarthy, Patrol Officer Falleni and Patrol Officer Madden responded to the area, located the defendant and returned him to the responsible party.

DOG BITE
An Elaine Court resident called to report a guest was bitten by the family dog.  Corporal McCarthy responded to the scene to initiate an investigation.

Corporal McCarthy determined the victim was injured and transported to Hackettstown Community Hospital for treatment.  Corporal McCarthy determined the animal was current on its vaccinations, and advised the owner to confine the animal in accordance with Township policy.  Corporal McCarthy forwarded documents related to his investigation to the Health Department and the Animal Control Officer.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
The West Morris Central High School reported a picnic table vandalized with a threatening statement carved in it’s top.  Patrol Officer Gilligan spoke with the complainant and completed a report.

DOG BARKING
An Oak Terrace resident called to report dog barking continually. Patrol Officer Madden responded to the scene to initiate an investigation.

Patrol Officer Madden located the barking dog, advised the complainant of the options available to them regarding resolution of the problem and completed a report.  The owner of the dog was not at home.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Patrol Officer Hade, investigated a possible case of Domestic Violence after a resident called Communications. 

Patrol Officer Hade initiated an investigation and determined an arrest was required.  The victim was advised of their rights, provided with documents related to victim’s rights under the Domestic Violence Act, and offered an opportunity to apply for a Temporary Domestic Violence Restraining Order (TRO), and meet with a Crisis Response Team (CRT) member.  The victim indicated they would like to obtain a TRO and speak with a CRT member.

Patrol Officer Hade assisted the victim in obtaining a TRO.  Washington Township Municipal Court Judge Leanza was contacted and issued the TRO.  Patrol Officer Hade located the individual and arrested the defendant for Assault.   The defendant was transported to Police Headquarters for assignment of bail and processing.  Washington Township Municipal Court Judge Leanza set bail at $1,000.  The defendant posted bail and was released.  Patrol Officer Madden additionally made appropriate referrals to both parties and forwarded the results of his investigation to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

THEFT
A
West Mill Road business owner reported that a Mega Maxx Table Arcade  was removed from the building.  Patrol Officer Gilligan initiated an investigation.  The owner stated that the value of the game was $2,500.  The investigation is continuing.
