Community Policing Unit provides Luncheon and Program
On
Tuesday May 18,2004, the Washington Township Police
Department and Community Policing Unit held a luncheon,
followed by a "Personal Safety" presentation, for the
senior's citizens of the Golden Age Group of Washington
Township.
The event was
held at the Senior Citizen building in Rock Spring Park.
Approximately 50 seniors were in attendance to hear
Sergeant Niemynski and Corporal McCarthy talk about the
dangers of vehicle breakdowns, how to safely use an ATM
machine, tips on safe walking/jogging, shopping, and
traveling in different areas. After the presentation,
seniors were provided with a buffet style lunch, catered
by the Long Valley Pizzeria. During the luncheon
portion of the program, many other personal safety
questions were addressed.
At the
conclusion to the day, all in attendance were provided
with "Call Police" signs, to be used in an event of a
vehicle breakdown, key chains and personal whistles, all
donated by the Washington Township PBA Local 301.
The Community
Policing Unit may schedule a second event for the end of
the summer. Any Senior Citizen residing in Long Valley,
who is interested in joining any of our senior citizen
organizations, is urged to call Corporal McCarthy at
908-876-3232 who will assist you, and answer any
questions.
