The first snowstorm of the year contributed to over 22 accidents on the
afternoon of December 5, 2003. A number of vehicles were damaged,
however there were no serious injuries as a result of the accidents as of
5:00 PM.
Road conditions slowed the departure of children from
school, and increased the amount of time required for them to get home.
There were no incidents
reported
involving children, or school busses during the afternoon commute.
The Washington Township Road Department treated the
roadways as soon as any snow began to accumulate, which may have
contributed to the generally good road conditions. Drivers are reminded
that road conditions are always subject to rapid change, and should take
care, even with all wheel drive vehicles, especially on Schooley's
Mountain, where temperature changes can be both sudden and dramatic.
