Bartley Road Truck Fire

Morning Commute, School Busses Delayed

A 1994 Dodge pickup, operated by a Kenvil, NJ resident caught fire while traveling west on Bartley Road September 14, 2005, disrupting morning commuter traffic. Bartley Road was closed for about an hour until the fire was extinguished and the scene was cleared after police and on scene fire officials interviewed the driver and determined there were kerosene heaters in the bed of the truck.

The Fairmount Fire Department extinguished the vehicle. The driver indicated a passing motorist told him the bed of his truck was on fire as he was traveling west on Bartley Road. Investigating officials indicated a lit cigarette falling into the bed of the truck may have ignited the materials in the bed of the truck.
