Hay Field also ignites, Fire Department contains Blaze

The tractorPolice Communications received a report of a tractor fire at a haying operation on West Mill Road on Monday morning at about 11:50 AM on June 21, 2004.  Patrol Officer Madden and Sergeant Bratus responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.  The Long Valley Fire Company, the Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection Association and other local units responded to extinguish the blaze.

Patrol Officers found a diesel powered tractor fully involved at the rear of the hay field.  The owners of the equipment reported the damage to the tractor was about $40,000.  They added that they lost about  $1,000 when the hay to be bailed burned. Fire officials and police on scene determined the cause of the fire was accidental.
