Hay Tractor Burns
Hay Field also ignites,
Fire Department contains Blaze
Police
Communications received a report of a tractor fire at a
haying operation on West Mill Road on Monday morning at
about 11:50 AM on June 21, 2004. Patrol Officer Madden
and Sergeant Bratus responded to the scene and initiated
an investigation. The Long Valley Fire Company, the
Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection Association and
other local units responded to extinguish the blaze.
Patrol Officers found a diesel powered tractor fully
involved at the rear of the hay field.
The owners of the equipment reported the damage to the
tractor was about $40,000. They added that they
lost about $1,000 when the hay to be bailed
burned. Fire officials and police on scene determined
the cause of the fire was accidental.
